KIRFS (Key Instant Recall Facts)

Please find below the KIRFS the children need to learn, split into each half term.  We practise these every day in class as the children need to become fluent in recalling them.

Autumn 2018

In autumn we will be focusing on: counting and place value; addition and subtraction; multiplication and division and length and mass.

See if you can have a go at some of the problems below!  We will continue to add new challenges as the children experience them.

Spring 2018

In spring we will move onto looking at money, 2D and 3D shapes and fractions towards the end of the term.  As always, if you would like to help your child at home, do not hesitate to ask for any guidance as to the content and strategies that are being taught.

Below is a challenge the children have had a go at this term already, have a go at home yourself. Be warned, it can get noisy!

Summer 2019

The final term in year 2 sees us focusing on measures.  We will be beginning by learning all about fractions of amounts, shapes and sets of objects.  We will then be moving onto time, length, mass, temperature and finally finishing the year with work on statistics.

KIRFS – The children need to be able to tell the time to 5 minute intervals in year 2.  This builds on their knowledge from year 1 when they should have secured being able to tell the time to the half hour and o’clock.  In the second half term we will be focusing on practising the facts for the 5 times table, including related division facts.

Big Maths in Year 2

As part of Big Maths this year, children will have to become fluent in the following times tables:

2 times table

5 times table

10 times table.

In addition to these, children are also expected to know the following  ‘Learn Its’ (and related number facts) by the end of the year:

3+8=11

3+9=12

Spring term

6+7=13

5+6=11

5+4=9

8+7=15

8+9=17

Summer term
